Covering 'Hurt' - NIN (probably more the Johnny Cash version). Hard to keep my shit together playing this song but I managed to get through it. Just.
Been thinking a lot about suicide. Not doing it myself although I have done in the past, but about how people I looked up to have taken their own lives despite being so widely adored all over the world, seemingly living the dream life. Then BAM. Dead. How it shocks us all as a society, as a community, we never saw it coming. Are we just too self absorbed to see the cries for help?
From my own experience with depression, we're able to hide it well. I was both too proud and ashamed to ask for help. I don't think many people knew how low I got because I hardly showed it on the outside. Maybe you catch snippets of it in my dance, my music, my fighting. Glimpses of pain in art and pushing my body to the limits. Suffering arguably makes us better artists and athletes. But in the end if you let that darkness consume you, is it worth it? Fuck no. I think you're of more use to the world alive. Your potential to shine is limitless. Your gifts are endless and overflowing ESPECIALLY when you're happy.
You are not alone. You are so so loved, you have no idea. Hang in there. ❤
“A boy named Sue”
And he said: "Son, this world is rough
And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough
And I knew I wouldn't be there to help ya along
So I give ya that name and I said goodbye
I knew you'd have to get tough or die
And it's the name that helped to make you strong.
