2005 June 3 The Ming Tombs Walk.
The Sacred Way of Beijing consists of a walk of approximately seven kilometers that marks the access to the Ming Tombs.
The road has a stone arch in the south that serves as a preface. The arch, fourteen meters high and twenty-nine meters wide, is the oldest and largest in its category. The Great red door below serves as the main entrance to the enclosure. On each side of the door we can see a stele that reads "officers get off their horses", which shows us the implicit supremacy of imperial power.
Later we will find the Pavilion of the stelae. In the four corners of the pavilion stand four marble columns at a height of about ten meters. Each column has forty-one dragons engraved and has a mythological animal sitting on top. Inside the pavilion a beast of giant stone called Bixi carries on its back a stele with long inscribed inscriptions.
Once past the pavilion, we will enter a straight avenue guarded by thirty six marble statues of the XVI century aligned on both sides of the road. Among them we can find twelve human figures and twenty-four animal figures that serve as protection for the dead emperors. Among the animal figures we can find lions, horses, elephants, camels and some fantastic animals. Those who are reclining watch the place during the night and those who are standing during the hours of the day. Among the twelve human figures, four of them are honor guards of the emperors, four civil servants and four imperial advisers.
In the last place we will find the Dragon Gate and the Phoenix, made of white marble and which marks the end of the Sacred Way. #travel#travelblogger#travelphotography#traveller#traveling#travelers#travels#travelgram#travelworld#travellife#womantraveler#place#viajar#photographer#photooftheday#photograph#letsguide#trip#tourism#tourist#instatraveling#traveldiaries#art#history#travelphoto#travelstagram#instagramers#instagramersgallery#beijing
Olivia Pope vibes all day!! #itshandled *
My hubs had the honor of speaking at a retirement ceremony this past weekend at the White House! He did such an amazing job! We both agreed it was one of the best experiences of our lives. Never in my life did I think I would have an opportunity to visit here! Witnessing a retirement ceremony is always so inspirational, and seeing how happy the family was to complete this journey together had me all kinds of emotional! 😭Congratulations to the Aure family!!
